Meet the Teacher!

by Carey Carson

September 03, 2006

Hi!  My name is Carey Carson and I have taught 5th grade at Brewster Elementary for 20 years.  I grew up in Rock Island, Illinois and attended Illinois State University where I received my BA in Elementary Education and a minor in music in 1975.  I didn't begin teaching until 1986, as I stayed home while our children were young.

We have three children Amy, Isaac, and Katie.  Amy and her husband, Garret, live in Mt. Lake.  Garret works at Ethanol 2000 in Bingham Lake and Amy is a stay-at-home mom with our five grandchildren.  Our son, Isaac, is a captain in the United States Army and is presently stationed at Ft. Hood, TX.  He has served in Afghanistan and will be deploying the end of October for Iraq.  Katie and her husband, Aaron, live in Sioux Falls where Katie is a nurse in the neo-natal intensive care unit.  Aaron works as a software engineer for Daktronics in Brookings, SD.

I always wanted to teach in the upper grades and couldn't enjoy my job more teaching 5th graders.  I love going to work knowing that each day is going to be different from the day before.  I also look ward to the surprise visits of former students when they come by to "chat."

When not in school, I enjoy spending time with our grandchildren.  I also play piano for our church, like making cards, and I am just getting into scrapbooking. I have started collecting antique Hull vases, so whenever we travel there are stops to be made at antique stores.  But my favorite pastime by far is to read, read, and read!!
