Elementary Choral Festival
"Celebration of Young Muscians"
by Elizabeth Bushard
These 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Round Lake-Brewster Elementary
music students will participate in the MMEA Elementary Choral
Festival, “Celebration of Young Musicians” 2010. It takes place in
Worthington at Prairie Elementary, on Friday, March 5th. The
students will perform 4-5 selections in a choir with a guest choral
conductor and also work with instruments and rhythm as well as some
kind of dance throughout the day. Their day is divided into 3
sections, DANCE, INSTRUMENTS (rhythm) and CHOIR REHEARSAL. They
will participate with students from other schools in the southwest
corner of Minnesota.
Prior to attending the festival, rehearsals on the music for the
Choir will be done at noon during recess during February. This
festival takes place during the school day on Friday, March 5th and
the students will present a concert at the end of the afternoon,
free to the public, allowing the students to show all they have
learned throughout the day, including performing as a choir, under
a guest conductor.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to experience
other world cultures. The Nobles County Collaborative has sponsored
the festival and is paying for most of the registration fees for
each student as well as paying for the music that is ordered for
each school and the transportation that the school needs to
provide. We thank the Nobles County Collaborative for allowing our
students to participate in a musical experience while learning
about various cultures different from our own.
